The Swansea region is a compelling destination for city and coastal visitors alike. This is backed by new figures1 that illustrate that visitor spend was over £600 million in 2023. A desirable destination soaring out of the inevitable downturn caused by the covid effect.
Just last year, visitor numbers grew by over 3% to more than 4.7million. Tourism, a key industry for the region, generates business across the sectors and supports 5,470 jobs. The Swansea Council has just revealed that income from tourism rose to an impressive £658 million which represents a notable economic boost to the region.
Celebrating the release of these figures, Wales Tourism Alliance aims to promote tourism throughout Wales and its significant contribution to the local economy.2
Such an increase in spending in cities that attract tourism creates a ripple effect on the surrounding businesses and market places. The property market particularly, results in increased demand and improved prices.
Tourism greatly benefits the economy, whether your are in big or small business. In turn, a strong economy means growing investment in community development and improved infrastructure (which previous Parc Felindre blogs have illustrated).
Homes can be built, transport improved, the public and private realm expanded. All in all, it creates desire, which attracts more visitors and builds on an already resilient, sustainable economy. Positive growth indicators for all in the Parc Felindre region.3
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration, Events and Tourism, praised the collaborative effort behind the figures:
“These results are a testament to the outstanding work of our council’s tourism team and the entire local tourism sector.
“Through high-impact marketing campaigns, partnerships with businesses, and the support of national and local events, we’re successfully promoting Swansea Bay as a must-visit destination at any time of the year.”
Cllr Francis-Davies said:
“We’re determined to keep on giving people more reasons to visit. Our events programme and ongoing regeneration projects are key to boosting footfall and spending across the region.”
Attracting growth in footfall to Swansea, the city, the bay and the region beyond means more potential for Parc Felindre. Visit our site plan now to see the available plots for your business https://parcfelindre.co.uk/en/site-plan.
