The Harvest Supermoon can be seen in October and is one of three super moons expected before the end of 2025.1

What makes a full Moon a Supermoon?
The Moon's orbit around the Earth is elliptical, meaning that the distance between the two varies throughout the year. A full moon occurs when the moon is at its closest point to Earth. When it is within 90% of its closest point, it can be referred to as a ‘supermoon’. Astrologer Richard Nolle named this phenomenon a ‘Supermoon’ in 1979 to describe full Moons that appear noticeably larger and brighter. Supermoons can seem to be up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter.
What is a Harvest Moon?
This October's full Moon is known as the Hunter's Moon and is also this year's Harvest Moon. The Harvest Moon is the name given to the full Moon that rises closest to the autumn equinox, traditionally a time for gathering crops. It rises around sunset for several evenings in succession creating extra light for farmers working outside. The 7 October 7 Harvest Moon is the brightest of the year, so far, but two more super moons are due on 5 November and 4 December.2
