The Welsh Government has developed a south west Wales regional economic framework which calls for a gathering of initiatives and resources, so that strengths and assets can be maximised across the region.
Regional partners have provided a solid foundation and development priorities. The number one Mission is that south west Wales becomes a UK leader in renewable energy and spearheads the net zero economy aimed for in 2030.1
Be part of this exciting new initiative at Parc Felindre, whose region provides natural assets, industrial capabilities, higher education and R&D opportunities to build your business into a significant presence.
In addition to the solid support of the Welsh government for this mission, the country is bidding for £47 billion in renewable energy investment. This inspiring sum could breathe new life into every aspect of the Welsh economy, creating thousands of jobs and attracting new business.2
Only last month, Future Energy Wales 2024 conference revealed the economic potential of renewable energy across the nation, from onshore wind, offshore wind, solar and tidal power.
The study was commissioned by Renewable UK Cymru, the most powerful voice for the renewable energy industry in Wales. They are driving the rapid transition to green electricity by putting renewables at the heart of the Welsh economic agenda, and championing the industry alongside its members.3
The analysis projects an annual average investment of almost £4 billion, peaking at £7 billion in 2028. Offshore wind, forecasted to account for £32.4 billion of this total, could become the backbone of Welsh economic growth by 2035.
While offshore wind promises long-term gains, onshore wind represents Wales’s fastest path to growth. A projected £4.5 billion in investment could enable onshore wind capacity to reach just over 3 GW by 2035, provided planning and grid capacity issues are swiftly addressed.3
Jess Hooper, RenewableUK Cymru Director says:
“Wales stands at the threshold of a historic opportunity. By harnessing this renewable investment potential, we can secure Welsh jobs and build a secure, long-term local economy across all parts of the country.”
This initiative shows the capacity for renewable energy, sustainable business and a desire to work for change in a way that will reflect new style productivity across the region, and work to protect the landscape as well as community livelihoods.
With public support in Wales for wind, solar and tidal power at 79%, the Welsh Government has set a target for Wales to meet 100% of its electricity needs from renewables by 2035.3
Take advantage of this aspect of growing south west Wales’ wider economy, whilst endorsing more renewable energy projects and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
