Now officially opened, at a recent event in the new 3,500 capacity Swansea Arena, a key part of the Swansea £135m Copr Bay Destination is gliding elegantly into its planned position for bringing the spirit of regeneration to the whole region. First Minister Mark Drakeford was among those attending.1
Mark Drakeford, First Minister of Wales, said:
“This is a very exciting time for the regeneration of Swansea and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to invest in these projects which will increase the connectivity between the city centre and the waterfront and provide Swansea with a state-of-the-art facility that will increase its ability to host major cultural and business events. I’d like to congratulate all partners on delivering this project in such difficult circumstances.”
The magnificent arena is now open to the public featuring a sparkling new programme of international celebrities. The adjacent 1.1-acre coastal park leisure district is also open, offering a landscaped recreational area of trees, greenery, benches, water feature and soft play area.
Both the coastal park and arena are part of the £1.35 billion Copr Bay phase one district being developed by Swansea Council and managed by RivingtonHark. Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd is leading on its construction. The arena feature is part-funded by the £1.3bn Swansea Bay City Deal – an investment in nine major programmes and projects across the Swansea Bay City Region.
